Sweden’s Supreme Court reduces punishment for Iraqi woman who raped 10-year-old daughter multiple times

In July, 31-year-old Hamsa Jamal Jbar Al-Jizani was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for repeated rape of her 10-year-old daughter and child pornography crimes.

The supreme court now softens the sentence to 3 years in prison. According to the judgment, the woman abused her daughter while photographing and filming the assaults.

The girl has testified that the mom did "disgusting things" to her and took "disgusting photos". She's now placed in a foster home.

The woman has denied the crimes, despite films and photos documenting the abuse.

If she would've performed the actions, it must've happened under the influence of black magic, sorcery or hypnosis, as she has no memory of it, she says.

According to the woman, sorcery must've been practiced against her by a man from Iraq with whom she was in a short relationship, who got angry with her for refusing to pretend they had an ongoing relationship to help him obtain permanent residence in Sweden.

The district court didn't find the explanation of black magic credible. The prosecutor demanded a minimum of 4 years in prison but the court found that too harsh, sentencing her to 3 years and 6 months. The woman was also sentenced to pay damages of € 20,000 to the daughter.
