Matteo Salvini from the immigration-critical Lega Party has now been Italy’s deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister for 4 months.
"I've been here for 4 months and I must say that I’ve already done a lot. The latest's our decree on immigration and security. It's become more difficult for immigrants to reach Italy and easier for the government to expel criminals", he says.
"We'll now deprive people of their citizenship if we think they're terrorists and as a result we get more security and control."
And according to the Interior Minister, immigration has been greatly reduced.
"It’s already 85% fewer disembarkations. We’ve gone from 100,000 to 20,000. Where there’s a will, there’s a way", he points out.
"We’ve been called ugly, racists, fascists, egoists, populists, but what we do is to defend the safety of our kids."
According to Salvini, next year’s European elections will be about defending the peoples of Europe.
The election will focus on the people, the right to safety, work, life and health as well as the protection of languages and traditions, he explains in a video and he concludes by pointing out that he must continue working – to fight immigration, Islamic extremism and terrorism.
