According to the latest reports, there's both bad news and good news to be had, from the stats agency ISTAT.
Thursday’s estimates from the statistics agency who that over 1 in 4 Italians were at risk of poverty or social exclusion during the year 2017.
The proportion of Italians considered ‘at risk’ fell from 30% down to 28.9% showing some improvement over the previous year, 2016.
The good news derived from their report's that ‘seriously deprived households’ has dropped from 12.1% to 10.1%.
Other figures in the report are:
-The % of Italians at risk of poverty dropped from 20.6% to 20.3%.
-The income of the poorest 20% of the population increased by 7.7% in 2016 compared to 2015.
-Earnings of the wealthiest 20% went up 1.9% in 2016 compared to 2015.
-Earnings of the wealthiest were 5.9-times higher than those of the poorest, down from 6.3-times in previous years.
