His Name's Joe Brown Weaver IV: White Man (and his dog) Murdered by 4 Black Men in Home Invasion in South Carolina

Investigators have arrested 4 suspects after a man and a dog were killed and another man shot during a home burglary in Summerville.

Summerville police arrested 22-year-old Polo Keoki Salazar, 21-year-old Muanah Aruna Fortune Jr., 20-year-old Elijah Quinlin Green and 25-year-old Devonte Trevon Major. All were denied bond Monday afternoon.

Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers said 47-year-old Joe Brown Weaver IV of Summerville died in the incident.

At 12:03 am on Monday, police received a 911 call about a shooting in the 100 block of Myrtle Place (Robynwyn).
Court records state that the suspects gained entry through the back door of the home, and that a dog was shot as soon as the suspects got inside. The dog died shortly after.

An affidavit states that as the suspects were ransacking the house, the victim was shot multiple times in the chest which resulted in his death.

A neighbor called 911 and told emergency dispatchers that 2 people and a dog were shot by 4 people who had just fled the scene.

Officers were in the area when the call was made and saw a dark colored Honda CRV leaving the area at a high-rate of speed. Officers made contact with the SUV on Central Avenue at Laurel Street and tried to stop it, but the suspects fled, according to Summerville police spokesman Thomas Peterson.

A report states that during the chase, the suspects discarded 4 guns from the SUV along with the victim’s wallet, all were recovered.

The pursuit went through Dorchester County via 17A into Colleton County where deputies stopped the car with stop sticks. According to investigators, the suspects used a stolen Honda CRV from Walterboro, and Salazar was the driver. Officers say Salazar, Fortune admitted entering the home to steal and also admitted that all the suspects were armed with guns.

The 4 suspects, all from Beaufort County, face charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary 1st-degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, armed robbery and ill treatment of animals in general, torture.

Shooting survivor goes to neighbor. The man who survived went to a neighbor's home following the shooting. The neighbor then called 911.

911 Operator: "He’s saying he was shot in the chest and is breathing okay?"

Neighbor: "Yes, he's standing right in front of my door."

911 Operator: "What about the dog and the other person?"

Neighbor: "The dog's dead and the friend's dead."

Charles Wall lives just down the street and saw the police cars, ambulances and fire trucks.

"I see one policeman draw a shotgun, pump it so I know there was a problem down there," Wall said."Having been in Vietnam, I just told my wife to go in the house and lay low. That’s the way I look at it."
